解説
① 比較とは何か
英語の比較には、大きく分けて次の3つがあります。
- 原級：同じくらい（as 〜 as）
- 比較級：〜より…だ
- 最上級：いちばん…だ
② 原級の文
「AはBと同じくらい〜だ」は、as + 形容詞 + as を使います。
例：I am as tall as my brother.（私は兄と同じくらい背が高いです）
③ 比較級の文
「AはBより〜だ」は、形容詞を比較級にして than を使います。
短い語（1音節など）：
tall → taller / fast → faster
例：This book is older than that one.
長い語（2音節以上が多い）：more + 形容詞
例：This movie is more interesting than that one.
④ 最上級の文
「いちばん〜だ」は最上級を使い、前に the を置きます。
短い語：
tall → the tallest
長い語：the most + 形容詞
例：She is the best student in the class.
⑤ 不規則変化
- good → better → best
- many / much → more → most
- bad → worse → worst
これらは形が大きく変わるので、暗記が必要です。
